The LPD-17 and LHA-R are new classes of amphibious ships, currently under construction, that will be designed to fulfill multiple mission capabilities. The use of newer technologies in the area of training and reduced manning dictate LPD-17 Class ships use of modern training solutions. By applying Subject Matter Expertise and skilled personnel in training requirements analysis, RDR is assisting NAVAIR Training Systems Division to make LPD 17 and LHA-R crws more productive, effective and well-trained.
RDR's tasks include:
- Provide technical inputs to : LPD 17 Training Plan, Projected Operational Environment (POE) and Required Operational Capabilities (ROC), LPD 17 Equipment Tables, Preliminary Ship Manning Documentation (PSMD), and Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS).
- Provide computer-assisted system development for automating LPD 17 training system development and engineering activities.
- Update and maintain the Navy Training Systems Plan (NTSP). This includes updating the NTSP due to manning and equipment changes.
- Collect and integrate data for the Pre-Commissioning Training and the Crew Phasing Plan to identify training requirements and the gathering of materials for populating the Total Ship Training System database.
- Maintain databases supporting Ship's Systems, Hierarchal Ship Code (HSC), associated Technical Manuals, Interactive Courseware (ICW), personnel, and training.
- Investigate alternative training media and systems capabilities and document the resultant training cost savings of these alternatives. Evaluate automating the Instructional Systems Development (ISD) process and develop additional ISD software in support of LPD 17 Front-End Analysis.
