Surface Ship and Submarine Fire Fighting Modifications
The Navy's 19F Series Surface Ship Firefighting Trainers provide shipboard firefighting teams training in the extinguishing of Class A, B, and C shipboard fires. The trainer is an advanced electro/mechanical system that simulates shipboard fires by using live, computer-controlled, propane-fueled fires. RDR conducted two separate modifications to the US Navy's 19F Series Surface Ship Firefighting Trainers located in San Diego, CA; Norfolk, VA; Great Lakes, IL, Ingleside, TX, and Mayport, FL. The two modifications consisted of a redesign and replacement of the propane ignition system on the trainers, and the design and installation of several safety/user-friendly enhancements. The Fire Firefighting Trainer project consisted of modification efforts to the following four different trainer types:
