Small Arms Marksmanship Trainer (SAMT)


SAMT is a 60 station firing range, PC based small arms training device. Each station is designed to provide M-16 rifle and 9MM pistol training. Each station has two laser-activated targets and target activation is based upon recording a beam hit of the trigger-actuated laser.

RDR designed and installed a complete operating system rehost for the SAMT. This consisted of the following tasks:

• Analyze software and hardware problems and propose a suitable new host computer and open architecture operating system.
• Design, develop and install software modifications using MS C++ and Microsoft Foundation Class.
• Define and develop an improved instructor monitoring system and associated student records keeping functions.
• Prepare all technical data package revisions including engineering drawings, software design documents, O&M manual, and logistics support documents.
