Submarine Piloting and Navigation (SPAN) Trainer Instructor Operator Station
The submarine piloting navigation trainer (SPAN) is used to train enlisted men and officers in the proper planning and execution of a pre-determined navigation plan. Through the use of naval navigation techniques and simulated and tactical equipment, the team ensures the ship is safely piloted and navigated in various harbors and weather conditions. The government requested RDR modify the VESUB instructor operator station software to configure and control the SPAN 2000 trainer. The modifications duplicated the functionality of the VESUB training system and coexist with the SPAN 2000 software. Additional features and controls were added to the Instructor menu system tp provide the means for the instructor to remotely command and view the status of the member simulations in the SPAN 2000 trainer.
